Kearsey Highlights Day 2 of American Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – Junior Will Kearsey highlight day two of The American Championships with a championship swim in the 50 Free on Thursday night from the IUPUI Natatorium.
The Wheathampstead, England native is known for his backstroke events but this season the junior has developed in his sprinting and all that hard work paid off on Thursday with a first place finish in the 50 Free. Kearsey secured a NCAA "B" standard time in the event with a time of 19.78 that also set a school record and lifetime best for Kearsey.
Kearsey also helped the Huskies set a school record in the 200 Free Relay. Kearsey led off the relay with a scorching time of 19.69 mark to set the tone for his teammates. Emils Jurcik, Luke Martin and Kyle Dunlap finished the job to capture a runner-up finish in the event.
Junior Cooper Knapp earned All-Conference honors with a third place finish in the 200 IM.
In the 1M dive, Kyle Kennedy and Torrington Wagner reached the A Finals for the second-straight day and the Husky duo placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Freshman Justin Corres recorded an 11th place finish in his first American Conference Championship.

We definitely improved our times from the morning session which is very exciting," said head coach Chris Maiello. "Overall, I'm impressed with our collective ability and attitude, everyone is contributing up and down the lineup and that is what championship season is all about. Especially with all our best events coming up the next couple days"
