KENNESAW, Ga. - The UConn Huskies closed out their weekend road trip to Georgia falling at Kennesaw State, 7-0.
"The guys jumped out to early leads on all three court but unfortunately we couldn't close it out on court one when serving for the match," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor. "We had the doubles point on our racquet and just couldn't finish today. (John Michale) Holtmann continued to play at high level winning the first before falling in third set tiebreaker. We competed hard and the results will come."
The Huskies battled in doubles play but came up short of the opening point. Senior Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) and sophomore John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) took Bryan Triana and Drew Lahey to the brink but fell short, 7-5 at No. 1. KSU closed it out at No. 2 but the Huskies No. 3 team of senior Justin Warren (Durham, N.C.) and freshman Christian Provenzano (Montclair, N.J.) were tied at 6-6 with Lucas deTorres Curth and Harvey Maughan.
In singles play, Holtmann continued his strong play in the early spring, falling short in three sets at No. 2. Holtmann took the first set, 6-4 but dropped the next two, 6-1 and 10-5.
The Huskies return to Connecticut and will return to action on Saturday, February 9 with a trip to state-rival Sacred Heart. Â
