CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The UConn men's tennis team took on a pair of nationally ranked programs on Sunday, falling to No. 12 Division II ranked Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 36 nationally ranked University of Miami.
In the Huskies 6-1 loss to PBA, senior Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) picked-up the UConn point with his 13th singles victory on the year. McLister won a three-setter at No. 4 over Erik Carlsten, 6-2, 5-7 and 10-8.
Sophomore John Michael Holtmann (Coral Gables, Fla.) lost a tough three-set battle at No. 2 to Umberto Rosi, 6-3, 6-7, 10-8.
"It was a disappointing effort in very tough conditions," stated associate head coach Reinaldo Valor on the morning match at Palm Beach Atlantic. "We came out flat in doubles and never could get it turned around. We need to some of the fundamentals much better and it's disappointing for that to be happening at this point in the season."
The Huskies headed over to Miami for a night match and lost 4-0 in a match contested in clinch format.
"We had some chances to really apply pressure today in the doubles, but unfortunately none of the momentum points went our way," commented Valor. "The same was true in singles as well. I was proud of our effort and we are trying to climb our way back to some good tennis again."
The Huskies return north and will next be in action against state rival Quinnipiac on March 30.
