STORRS, Conn.—Sophomore Briana Marcelino has been selected as the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week. This is UConn's first outright selection this season and the first of Marcelino's career.
The Huskies faced off with the River Hawks of UMass-Lowell in the 2019 home opener and a weekend series against the Shockers of Wichita State. Marcelino started in each contest as UConn went 2-2 on the week.
During her 14 at-bats, she blasted four home runs with two coming in the final game of the series at Wichita State. She posted four runs, on six hits, along with 12 RBIs, a double, all while batting .429. Defensively, she had 18 chances and produced 11 putouts along with six assists.
"Briana had a tremendous week at the plate on the field. She has been seeing the ball really well all season and her numbers show. Her hard work in the offseason has truly paid off this year and we are excited for her to continue driving the ball as we approach the second half of our season."
—Head Coach Jen McIntyre
UConn is back in action and has a busy week ahead of them, starting with a make-up doubleheader at the University of Hartford. They will then take on UMass in a single game 24 hours later, followed by a conference weekend series at home against Memphis.
