STORRS, Conn. - The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announced its 2019 All-American Athlete of the Year recipients and four UConn student-athletes have received the honor. Senior Susan Aneno (Mpigi, Uganda) of the women's track and field team, senior Jack McLister (Leesburg, Va.) of the men's tennis team, redshirt sophomore Ben Maycock (Newington, Conn.) of the baseball team and redshirt sophomore Kennedy Arundel (Chicago, Ill.) of the volleyball team have been recognized this year for their athletic accomplishments and dedication to strength and conditioning.
Susan Aneno is an exceptional athlete on and off the track, pushing herself tirelessly in the weight room and in her running. In the weight room she is ranked in top 3 in overall team testing, including second in Vertical Jump and in the top 5 in both Trapbar Deadlift and Hang Clean. She's eager to push herself in everything she does, always looking for ways to make lifts more challenging. Susan's work ethic doesn't stop at her own training. Her great leadership in the weight room sets an example for her teammates. - James Baker
Jack McLister is a four-year member and senior co-captain of the UConn Men's Tennis team. He shows up every single day with the right mindset and is always pushing himself to continually improve. Jack's energy and enthusiasm is contagious in the weight room. He gets his teammates excited about whatever task is in front of them and he challenges them to accomplish the task with excellence. When Jack is not playing tennis or doing extra work in the weight room, he stays busy as a member of UConn Army ROTC Program. He plans to pursue a career as a Quartermaster Officer. Jack's impact in the weight room, on the tennis court and in the community will be felt long after he graduates.  – Shannon Phillips
Ben is one of the best athletes that I have had the opportunity to coach in my career. His tenacious approach to training has elevated him to the top of our baseball program standards as well as our department standards.  He is ranked in the top three in our overall team performance standards for three straight years and has improved his performance measures each year. He ranks in the top three in Broad Jump, Bench Press & 60 Yard Sprint for the program all time and holds the program record for Back Squat.  Ben is a great teammate and is the mark of consistency and work ethic for his teammates.  He embodies all of the great qualities that a strength coach is looking for.      -Joel DeMarco
With regards to training and performance measures, Kennedy is exceptional. She has held the top spot in our overall ranking for 4 years. Her unrelenting work ethic and consistent attitude allowed her to improve her performance measures each year. She holds the program record in VJ, Approach VJ, Back Squat, & Chin-Ups. Kennedy always displayed a 'quiet competitiveness,' which poised her to perform at her best on most days. She has elevated the standards by which we evaluate performance measures in our volleyball program for years to come. – Joel DeMarco
