STORRS, Conn. – This past Friday, student-athletes from Men's Ice Hockey, Women's Ice Hockey, Women's Basketball, Volleyball, Women's Soccer, Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving and Golf participated in the Annual Spring 5K Husky Obstacle Challenge planned and organized by the UConn Sports Performance Department.
This annual competition, which takes place at 5:45 a.m. on the last mandatory day of training for off-season sports, commences a major and extensive 90 minute period of training consisting of a distance 5K with 11 obstacles, requiring a combination of strength, stamina and most importantly, teamwork. Competing student-athletes are broken down into smaller teams of 5-8 athletes - with multiple sports combined in some cases.
The 5K Husky Obstacle Challenge finishes at the Storrs Brothers' Monument at the top of Cemetery Hill to acknowledge the hard work of the University founders and reflect on the opportunities that we have been given and accept the challenge to pay it forward while overlooking the quiet, still campus.
