Catch up with Megan, by reading her answers below in the second edition of 'UConn Volleyball, then and now.'
What made you choose to come to Storrs?
The recruiting process was overwhelming. I knew I wanted to try something new and the academics were important. The GA at the time was from my area. She was the one who told me about UConn (which most people thought was the Yukon in Alaska). Once I got on campus, it felt comfortable, exciting, welcoming, and full of promise. I liked that it was big but rural. It had everything I wanted academically and it offered a lot of exciting opportunities athletically too.
What was your major at UConn?
English
What is something you will always remembers/cherish about UConn Volleyball?
I made a lot of lasting friends, most of my bridesmaids were my teammates.
Do you have a favorite memory with your teammates or of UConn in general?
A lot of times when we traveled, the coaches and families arranged for us to do something fun (in addition to the games of course). They also made sure to schedule a match in our home state at least once in our four years. We had a block party in Minnesota, a beach cook out in Texas, and I got to play in front of my grandparents in my home state of Washington.
What would you consider your greatest accomplishment since graduating from UConn?
I finished a masters, got married, bought a house, and worked. I spent eight years teaching high school before moving to coaching college full time. In those roles, I was able to support a lot of young people while they worked towards their goals. That is always exciting.
How did being a student-athlete here at UConn help prepare you for life after graduation?
Student-athletes are extremely employable. We know how to work with other people, problem-solve, deal with pressure, set goals and work towards them.
