Full Connectivity Now Available in Gampel
STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut Information Technology Services (ITS) partnered with the Division of Athletics and University Planning, Design and Construction to complete the necessary support systems to ensure comprehensive and robust wireless internet service in Gampel Pavilion, as announced by ITS on Friday.Â
Full connectivity is now available throughout the facility and UConn encourages everyone attending a game at Gampel to bring their mobile devices and their intellectual curiosity. The wireless network for fans to connect to at Gampel is UConn-Guest. Fans will then be brought to a landing page where they will have to simply accept the terms in order to connect.  Â
"Gampel was an atypical installation. It presented unique challenges for an efficient and effective wireless deployment that would meet the varied needs of faculty, students, sports teams, media, and others," VP for information technology and chief information officer Michael Mundrane said. "At events, the influx of spectators results in numerous devices in a large open space. This required the careful placement of numerous access points spaced to cover all locations with the needed capacity."
"We are grateful to the many people here at UConn that helped make full wireless connectivity at Gampel Pavilion a reality," director of athletics David Benedict said. "Sports fans across the country have come to expect having a robust, in-venue wireless network at their disposal and I am happy we will be able to provide that in Storrs moving forward."
The next event at Gampel is the women's basketball team's contest against Tulsa on January 19. Tip is set for 12 p.m. in Storrs and many former Huskies from the 1989-90 team will be in attendance to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the opening of Gampel Pavilion.
