Softball Adds DeWeese to 2020 Class

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team and head Coach Laura Valentino announced the addition of Rileigh DeWeese to the Class of 2024. DeWeese joins Taylor Zatyk, Makenzie Mason, Payton Kinney, Lauren Benson, Madisyn Estorga, and Jana Sanden, increasing Valentino's inaugural class to seven.
"I'm excited to announce the addition of Rileigh DeWeese to our 2020 Class.," said Valentino. "Rileigh is a very focused athlete and I am looking forward to seeing her compete at the plate in the Big East. Rileigh's overall discipline and hard work will be a great addition to the culture of our program."

NAME: Rileigh DeWeese
HOMETOWN: Powhatan, Va.
HIGH SCHOOL: Powhatan High School
POSITION: Infield / Outfield
HEIGHT: 5-7
High School: A four-year letterwinner under the coaching of Marie Crump, she helped lead Powhatan to an appearance in the 2018 4A State Championship game. DeWeese earned back-to-back nods to the All-Region First Team, while also garnering First Team All-Metro (2019), First Team All-State (2018), and Second Team All-State honors (2018). During the 2019 season, DeWeese notched seven home runs while posting a 0.389 hitting percentage, 0.539 on base percentage, 0.768 slugging percentage and 0.944 fielding percentage. The season prior, she tallied one homer and sported a 0.537 batting average.
Additionally, she played three seasons for Zach Wright on the Firecrackers NC club team, aiding the team to first place finishes at the 16U Scenic City (2018) and 18U Diamond Classic (2019) Showcases, and second place at the 16U Atlanta Legacy Showcase (2018).
Off the field, Rileigh was a member of the All A/B Honor Roll, 4.0 or a above GPA in 2019.
