Former UConn track & field standout Andrew Dubs was selected as the Head Coach for United States National Team for the 31st Summer World University Games in Chengdu, China to be held in 2021.
Dubs graduated from UConn in 2009 and after his time competing for the Huskies, he began a coaching career that has him currently serving as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech where he works with the team's throwers.
A former standout thrower for Huskies, he is currently the president of UConn's fledgling track & field alumni group. He has played a key role in spearheading the organizations fundraising efforts to benefit UConn's track & field student-athletes.
During his time in Storrs, Dubs was a three-time NCAA qualifier and four-time BIG EAST champion in the shot put for the Huskies. He was also an All-BIG EAST Conference selection eight times in the Shot Put and twice in the Discus. During his time with the Huskies, Dubs was also an active member and president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
"Andrew is one member of our Coaching Tree that numbers in the 20-30 range at the Division I level. Working side by side with him in developing our alumni group has been inspirational to me. Watching him lead the Alums as they raised 1.5 Million+ in pledges in 10 days made me proud beyond words. The honor of being named a Head Coach of a US team competing Internationally is well deserved."
