STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's volleyball team received the 2019-2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award on July 20th. UConn receives the award in a record-breaking year, with 1,313 total winners.
The Huskies combined for a 3.34 team GPA for the 2019-20 academic year. The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. 232 programs received Team Academic honors for the first time in 2020.
"We as a staff are extremely proud of this group of women and achieving this award. This academic year has been far from normal," said head coach Ellen Herman-Kimball.
"The fact that they stayed diligent and disciplined on their studies during these unprecedented times speaks volumes of their characters. We are just super proud of them and they are rock stars!"
Rising sophomore Madi Whitmire and graduate student Genna Florig were also recognized on the Dean's List with 4.0's for the spring semester. As a team, the Huskies made the AD Honor Roll for the spring semester, with every player posting above a 3.0, and a cumulative team grade point average of 3.65 for the spring semester.
