STORRS, Conn. – The third-ranked UConn women's basketball team (7-0, 6-0 BIG EAST) returns to action Tuesday to host Butler (1-8, 1-7) in Gampel Pavilion at 6:30 p.m. The game will air on SNY and 97-9 ESPN.
UConn notched an 87-50 win over Providence on Jan. 9. Freshman Paige Bueckers scored more than 20 points for the second time this season, posting 23 off 8-for-10 shooting. Freshman Aaliyah Edwards made her first career start vs. the Friars. She finished the game with 10 points and seven rebounds. The Huskies got a season-high 30 bench points, led by 18 from sophomore Aubrey Griffin. After a slow start, UConn led just 19-18 at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies outscored the Friars 53-19 over the next two quarters.
Auriemma leads the nation with an 88.5 win percentage and is tied with Pat Summitt for second in wins for Division I women's basketball coaches with 1,098 wins. Tara VanDerveer (Idaho/Ohio State/Stanford, 1,105) is the only coach ahead of Auriemma and Summitt.
Class of 2021 signee Saylor Poffenbarger enrolled for the spring semester and will join the UConn women's basketball team early. After completing a medical quaranting, Poffenbarger will be eligible to compete this season. She will have four more years of eligibility as all
winter sport athletes were granted an extra year by the NCAA. A 6-foot-2 guard, Poffenbarger is the 30th-ranked recruit in her class. She won gold with USA Basketball at the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship.
This will be the first ever meeting between UConn and Butler. Butler fell to Seton Hall, 83-68, on Sunday. This season, Okako Adika leads the Bulldogs with 14.1 points per game. Jaia Alexander leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per game. Head coach Kurt Godlevske is in his seventh season at Butler.
