Berkland, Parker Collect BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK - Following leading the UConn women's volleyball team to its biggest win in program history, senior Caylee Parker and junior Karly Berklandย each earned BIG EAST weekly honors, the conference announced Monday.
Parker was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career, while Berkland picked up her first BIG EAST recognition in being named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Parker logged 36 kills over the weekend, assisting the Huskies to wins against Providence and then-No. 19 Creighton, andย posted double-doubles in each match. The senior from Windsor, Ontario was crucial in UConn's statement victory over the Bluejays, recording a season-high 24 kills to go with 15 digs as the Huskies defeated a ranked opponent for the first time in program history.
Berkland was equally impressive on the defensive end, leading the team with 47 digs while averaging a .947 reception percentage. Additionally, the junior from Williamsburg, Iowa tabbed back-to-back 20-dig games for the first time this season, going for 24 against Providence and 23 against Creighton.ย
The Huskies, who stand at 14-6 overall and 6-2 in conference action, will remain at Gampel Pavilion for matches this weekend against Marquette and DePaul.
