STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's soccer sophomore Sofia Weber was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday.
The Weber-led defense limited No. 21 Georgetown to just one shot on goal as the Huskies stunned the Hoyas in Thursday's finale. GU was limited to just nine total shots as UConn scored a 1-0 win in Washington, D.C., to clinch a BIG EAST Championship berth. It marked just the second time this season Georgetown had been shutout and was their first loss in two seasons.
Lucy Cappadona was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Cappadona scored the game-winning goal vs. No. 21 Georgetown last Thursday.
UConn advanced to the BIG EAST Championship, where the Huskies fell to Butler, 1-0, in double overtime Sunday. UConn finished the season with a 9-8-1 overall record.
