Huskies to Host Fort Hays State in Exhibition Sunday

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's basketball team faces Fort Hays State in an exhibition Sunday in Gampel Pavilion at 1 p.m.
The game will stream for free through Huskies All-Access and will be broadcast on 97-9 ESPN through the UConn Sports Network from Learfield.
Due to COVID-19, UConn played the 2020-21 season without fans at home games. Sunday's exhibition is the first time in 624 days the Huskies will play a game in front of fans at Gampel Pavilion (last Feb. 22, 2020).
This is the second meeting all-time between the Huskies and Tigers. The teams competed in an exhibition on Nov. 1, 2017 at the XL Center. Fort Hays State is ranked fourth in the preseason WBCA Division II Poll.
UConn is ranked second in the preseason AP Poll. This is the 24th season the Huskies have been ranked in the top five to begin the season.
UConn will feature a young, exciting roster this season. The Huskies return 10 players from last season, including Naismith Trophy, Wooden Award and AP Player of the Year winner Paige Bueckers. She is joined by returning starters Nika Mühl, Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Evina Westbrook and Christyn Williams.
UConn welcomes the second-ranked recruiting class this fall, which includes No. 1 recruit Azzi Fudd, No. 5 Caroline Ducharme and No. 15 Amari DeBerry. No. 30 recruit Saylor Poffenbarger enrolled at UConn in January 2021. The Huskies also bring in a two-time All-Big Ten First Team selection from Ohio State, Dorka Juhász.
Bueckers was named the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year while No. 1 recruit Azzi Fudd was tabbed the league's Preseason Freshman of the Year. Nelson-Ododa, Williams and sophomore Aaliyah Edwards were named Preseason All-BIG EAST.
UConn will officially begin the 2021-22 season vs. Arkansas next Sunday, Nov. 14, at the XL Center. Fans are encouraged to wear blue for UConn's Bleed Blue game, and students will be able to pick up a Bleed Blue t-shirt. Tickets to the game are available HERE.
