Huskies Lose Heartbreaker 9-8 in 10 innings at No. 7 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - A short-handed UConn baseball team traded punches with No. 7 Texas Tech in a 10-inning heartbreaker that resulted in a 9-8 win for the Red Raiders.
UConn led 8-6 going to the bottom of the 10th inning but three-straight solo home runs walked off Texas Tech and earned the Red Raiders a four-game sweep.
The Huskies entered the ninth inning trailing 6-4 but a hit by pitch to David Langer, single for Kyler Fedko and wild pitch placed runners at secomd and third with no outs.
Kevin Ferrer came through with a two-run single to knot the game and eventually send it to extras.
In the 10th, Kyler Fedko collected his fifth hit of the game, a two-out RBI double to give UConn a 7-6 lead. Erik Stock followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to two runs.
For the Huskies it is their sixth one-run loss of season and drops UConn to 4-10 on the year.
Kenny Haus got the spot start for the Huskies a provided 3.2 innings of one run ball and left the game with a 2-1 lead.
Rand Polonia came in and pitched a season-hgih 2.1 innings giving up just one run.
His center fielder, Kyler Fedko, helped him out with a home-run saving catch to keep it a 3-2 lead for the Huskies.
Polonia followed with a ground out and strikeout to stand the tying run at third base.
Next up, the Huskies head to St. Joseph's for a three game series next weekend in Philadelphia.
