STORRS, Conn. - UConn sophomore Jessica Mazo (Bridgeport, Conn.) was named the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Huskies to conference wins over St. John's and Seton Hall last week.
Mazo was the BIG EAST's points leader in a 2-0-0 week for the Huskies. The sophomore began the week assisting on Yamilee Eveillard's 11th-minute game winner against St. John's on Thursday, dealing the Red Storm their first loss of the season. She followed that with a two-goal showing in Sunday's 5-0 win over Seton Hall, scoring the match's second and third goals to clinch the win. Mazo's five points and two goals were both BIG EAST highs last week as the Huskies improved to 4-1-1 on the year and 2-1-1 in the BIG EAST.
In addition, r-senior goaltender Randi Palacios (Vienna, Va.) was named to this week's BIG EAST Honor Roll. Palacios posted back-to-back shutout victories in BIG EAST play, including a five-save effort in Thursday's 1-0 win over St. John's - the Red Storm's first loss of the season
