Watson Named IWLCA Co-Offensive Player of the Week

STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior Sydney Watson (Prince Fredrick, Md.) was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association National Co-Offensive Player of the Week after guiding the Huskies to key wins over UAlbany and No. 22 nationally ranked UMass last week. Watson shares this week's Division I award with Jamie Ortega from the University of North Carolina.
Watson led UConn to 2-0 record last week, totaling 10 goals, three ground balls, 24 draw controls and three caused turnovers. She had four goals, 11 draws, two ground balls and a caused turnover in Thursday's win over Albany, before scoring six goals, collecting 13 draws, and adding two caused turnovers and a ground ball in Sunday's overtime win over UMass. Watson, a senior midfielder, scored the overtime game-winner against the Minutewomen with 96 seconds left to play. Â
She and the rest of the Huskies will face the Minutewomen agains this weekend when they head up to Amherst, Mass. for a return engagement on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
