USA U19 Team Advances to World Cup Knockout Stage

DEBRECEN  – UConn women's basketball freshmen Amari DeBerry and Azzi Fudd helped the U.S. U19 Team advance to the knockout stage of the 2021 FIBA U19 Women's World Cup.
The United States went 3-0 in group play with wins over Australia, Italy and Egypt. The U.S. earned the top seed in the knockout stage and will face Chinese Taipei in the Round of 16 Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET.
If Team USA advances, the quarterfinals will take place on Aug. 13. Semifinals are set for Aug. 14 and the Final will be played on Aug. 15. All games will stream at YouTube.com/FIBA.
Fudd averaged 10.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in group play. DeBerry notched 3.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
Featuring U19 teams from 16 nations, the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup qualified nations include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, host Hungary, Italy, Japan, Mali, Russia, South Korea, Spain and the USA.Â
The reigning FIBA U19 World Cup gold medalist, USA women's teams have won eight gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal while compiling an 86-13 overall record in U19 World Cup play since the event was launched in 1985. Even more impressive, the USA has posted a 62-3 record and won seven of the past eight U19 golds since 2005.
DeBerry was a member of the 2019 FIBA Americas U16 Championship gold medal winning team.
Fudd previously helped USA Basketball to gold medals at the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup.
