UConn WBB Alums Set for Olympic Knockout Stage

TOKYO – Six former members of the UConn women's basketball team will compete in the knockout stage of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as quarterfinals begin this week in Tokyo.
The United States features Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. Team USA went 3-0 in group play and will face Australia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The U.S. is seeking its seventh straight gold medal at the Olympics. Bird and Taurasi are looking to become the first basketball athletes to earn five Olympic gold medals.
Gabby Williams is a member of France, which went 1-2 in group play. France will face Spain in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
France is seeking its second Olympic medal after earning silver in 2012.
If the United States advances to the semifinals, it will face China or Serbia. If France advances, it will face Japan or Belgium.
Kia Nurse and Aaliyah Edwards represented Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Canada did not advance out of group play.
