Eric Schneider Elevated to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Services

STORRS, Conn. - UConn Director of Athletics David Benedict announced that Eric Schneider has been elevated to Associate Athletic Director for Compliance Services. Schneider has served as the department's assistant athletics director for compliance since November of 2017.
"I would like to thank David Benedict and the athletics administration for this opportunity," said Schneider. "My family and I love UConn and being Huskies and I am excited to continue working with our student-athletes and coaches and our compliance staff as our athletics program enters a new and exciting time in college athletics."
Since returning to his alma mater, Schneider has served as the primary compliance contact for the men's basketball, field hockey, men's soccer, men's golf, and women's rowing programs as well as the secondary compliance contact for the football team.
He is directly involved with the day-to-day operations of the UConn compliance office including creating and overseeing a comprehensive rules education program for all constituents as well as monitoring all aspects of compliance and assisting in the eligibility of student-athletes and financial aid. He is also a member of SWAT (Academics Certification Team), the Administrative Team for Athletics Department (member of Innovative Committee and Diversity and Inclusion Committee) and the athletics department representative on Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Coalition.
Prior to returning to Storrs, Schneider spent two years at the University of South Carolina where he first filled the roles of assistant director and associate director with a focus on rules education before earning a promotion to director of compliance services. In his role, he was the primary contact handling all compliance for the men's basketball program, as well as the cross country/track & field and men's and women's soccer programs.
He is currently a member of the National Association of Athletics Compliance (NAAC) and in 2015 was the winner of the NAAC Rising Star Award. He sat on the NAAC Board of Directors since 2013, serving as the chair of the membership/awards committee. Prior to that, he sat on the NAAC education committee.
Schneider earned his bachelor of science in sport management from UConn in 2007 and while serving as an athletic compliance intern and assistant basketball coach at Adelphi University, he earned a master of science in sport management in 2011.
After earning his master's, he did an internship at Brown University in the athletic compliance office followed by an academic and membership affairs (AMA) postgraduate internship with the NCAA in the summer of 2012. Schneider was named the assistant director of compliance at American University in October of 2012 before becoming the assistant athletic director of compliance at Brown University in July of 2013. Schneider spent two years at Brown and while there was a member of both The Ivy League playing and practice seasons committee and The Ivy League amateurism committee.
