Labbé, Canada Win Gold in Tokyo

TOKYO – Former UConn women's soccer standout Stephanie Labbé led Team Canada to its first-ever gold medal in women's soccer as the Canadians prevailed over Sweden in penalty kicks Friday.
After finishing extra time 1-1, the match went to PKs for the first time in Olympic gold-medal game history. Canada won 3-2 on penalty kicks. Labbé made two saves in the shootout.
This is Labbé's second Olympic medal after winning bronze with Canada in Rio 2016.
Labbé played at UConn from 2005-08. She was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008.
