MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The UConn men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw against the Marquette Golden Eagles Saturday night at Valley Fields.
Marquette started out strong to start the game as they had three shots in the first ten minutes. UConn would settle into the game as they limited the Golden Eagles to only one shot for the final 35 minutes of the first half. The Huskies first chance on goal came in the 16th minute. Kai Griese swung in a cross that was headed by Nicolas Tomerius but his header landed right into the goalkeeper's hands. UConn had another chance just five minutes later as Eli Conway found himself on a breakaway on the Golden Eagles goal. The freshman forward caused a turnover on Marquette's last defender and was quickly swarmed by defenders as he was not able to get a clean shot off on goal.
In the 38th minute Mateo Leveque won a free kick just outside of the Marquette box, but Soren Ilsoe's effort was just wide of the goal. The first half ended scoreless with UConn outshooting Marquette 5-4.
The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute of the second half. The Huskies responded quickly generating two chances on goal in the 53rd minute but could not convert their chances.
UConn found the equalizer in the 69th minute by forward Scott Testori. Ilsoe played a great through ball on goal to Okem Chime who found Ilsoe arriving late to the counterattack. His shot was deflected, and Testori was there to tap in his third goal of the season.
The Huskies continued to turn up the pressure on Marquette as they had five shots in the final 20 minutes of the game but could not find a winning goal. UConn's goalkeeper Michael Stone came up with a big save in the final ten seconds of the game to earn the Huskies a point on the road.
