UConn Athletics National Day of Giving
STORRS, Conn. – On Tuesday, November 29, the Division of Athletics will participate in the National Day of Giving, which supports giving to causes that rally communities and affinity groups. This will be the third consecutive year UConn Athletics has campaigned on this day to support its 21 programs.
Throughout the month of November, you will receive communications from the athletic department and our teams asking you to mark your calendars for November 29 and to encourage your friends and family to support our teams' needs.
Donations on Giving Tuesday will directly impact the UConn Athletics programs you love, helping fund important operating items such as travel, equipment, recruiting, and team-building activities.
Last year, the Division of Athletics set a goal of $100,000 from 1,000 donors. Through UConn Nation's help, we surpassed that goal with over 10 hours remaining on the day. In the end, over $168,000 was raised from 924 donors, close to doubling the $88,000 raised in 2020.
This year, we are aiming to surpass $200,000 from over 1,000 donors.
As we continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the Department of Athletics has launched a Women's Athletics fund to help provide resources directly to all women student-athletes as they train and compete at the highest level of Division I athletics, excel in the classroom, and develop into the next generation of leaders.
With Giving Tuesday taking place today, we are happy to announce that the Women's Athletics Fund has received two challenge matches from loyal Husky sisters, Lori Riiska '84 and Treacy Riiska '89! Both Lori and Treacy care deeply about our great university and are stepping up to help improve the student-athlete experience here at UConn.
Because of their generosity, the first $5,000 in gifts to our Women's sports will be matched dollar for dollar to the Women's Athletics Fund. Furthermore, when 500 supporters make a gift to our Women's sports, another $5,000 commitment to the Women's Athletics fund will be unlocked!
UConn Athletics is grateful to have champions of Women's Athletics like Lori and Treacy. We hope you will consider joining the Riiska's today by making a gift to your favorite Husky team!
