Track and Field Compete At UCF Black and Gold Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. – The UConn men's track & field program closed out their weeklong spring break trip in Florida competing in the Black & Gold Invitational at UCF.
The Huskies got a full week of training in and had a chance to get some of their outdoor athletes in competition for the first time in the spring opener.
On the track…
- UConn finished 1-2 in the 3,000 meters led by junior James Maniscalco (Fairfield, Conn.) who took the top-spot with a time of 8:36.90. Senior Joshua Bedard (Tolland, Conn.) was second in a time of 8:38.47, a new PR.
- Sophomore Kevin Cawley (Massapequa, N.Y.) won the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 5:54.39 and teammate sophomore Christopher Lepore (Trumbull, N.Y.) was second in 5:59.58.
- Freshman Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) ran the 400 meter hurdles for the first time and finished seventh overall with a time of 55.73 seconds. Junior teammate Xavier Smith (West Windsor, N.J.)
- Junior Joseph Pearl (Manchester, Conn.) was 12th in the 1500 meters with a new PR time of 3:55.18.
- In the 200 meters, juniors Wellington Ventura (Cresskill, N.J.) and Noah Woodman (Hampstead, N.H.) were 12th and 17th, respectively. Ventura, running the event for the first time, posted a time of 21.21 seconds, and Woodman clocked at 21.52 seconds.
- Senior Jordan Torney (Toms River, N.J.) was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.48 seconds.
- In the 400 meters, sophomore Connor Mahony and senior Aaron Hackett (Upper Marlboro, Md.) both recorded new PRs. Mahony was 13th in 49.63 and Hackett came in 16th in 49.70 seconds.
In the field…
- Junior Travis Snyder (Saco, Maine) opened his outdoor season with a second-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 5.11 meters. Junior Tyler Hrbek (Northvale, N.J.) was ninth overall at a height of 4.76 meters.
- Sophomore Joseph Venables (Durham, Conn.) and freshman Gabriel Fountain (Manchester, Conn.) finished fourth and fifth in the javelin. Venables came up with a new PR on his first time out this season, unleashing a throw of 60.66 meters. Fountain's best throw of the day came in at 59.97 meters.
- Senior Daniel Claxton (Nesconset, N.Y.) was fourth in the high jump with a height of 2.02 meters. Freshman Kasey Savage (Tolland, Conn.) was eighth clearing a height of 1.97 meters. Savage came back in the triple jump and took sixth place with a leap of 14.58 meters, a new personal best outdoors.
- Senior Matthew Brady (Biddeford, Maine) was 10th in the discus with his best throw at 47.32 meters.
- Sophomore Richmond Kwaateng (Lowell, Mass.) took a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.35 meters. Freshman Marc Morrison (Orlando, Fla.), competing in his hometown, took 15th with a jump of 6.88 meters.
- In the hammer throw, sophomore Kevin Cetin (Massapequa, N.Y.) was 14th overall with a throw of 52.26 meters.
