Softball completes series sweep of Creighton

Storrs, CT – UConn secures 13-5 run rule win over Creighton to complete their third series sweep on the season.
Elise Sokolsky started in the series finale against Creighton. She went three innings striking out two.
The Huskies scored in every inning in game three. They jumped out in front 1-0 in the first inning. Lexi Hastings came around to score on an infield single by Rosie Garcia.
UConn added to their lead in the second inning. Pinch runner, Hollis Wivell, came around to score on an infield single by Reese Guevarra making it 2-0.
Creighton took a 4-2 lead in the top half of the third. The Huskies responded right back in the bottom half of the inning tying the game at four. Erika Coreth hit a sac fly to score pinch runner Giuliana Abruscato. Sami Barnett came around to score on an error by Creighton.
Meghan O'Neil came in relief for Sokolsky in the fourth inning and went on to finish the game pitching two scoreless innings and striking out three.
UConn took back the lead in the fourth inning scoring five runs. Garcia kicked off the rally with a single to score Hastings. Briana Marcelino and Sami Barnett each hit a pair of two run singles to extend the lead to 9-4.
Creighton got a run back in the fifth, but the Huskies responded once again, scoring four runs to end the game in the fifth inning. Jana Sanden hit an RBI single to make it 10-0. The Huskies loaded the bases where they walked in two runs to set up the game sealing hit. Guevarra delivered a single that scored Coreth to end the game.
Head Coach Laura Valentino had this to say about her team's performance on the weekend, "The team showed up with a lot of heart and pride this weekend. They competed for each other, had positive contagious energy, and never lost their fight. We were relentless on offense and their commitment to the process is paying off. Looking forward to another five games at home defending our house."
The Huskies move to 24-13 on the year and 13-2 in BIG EAST play. They will be in action on Tuesday as they welcome Rhode Island.
