PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The UConn men's golf team fired a 1-under par 287 Monday to sit in third place after the first round of the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship at the Mountain View Course of Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.
The Huskies are just one stroke behind second-place Butler (286) and six shots behind first-round leader Marquette (281) after the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event.

The Huskies also received solid efforts from sophomores Tommy Dallahan (Simsbury, Conn.) and Jimmy Paradise (Tampa, Fla.), who were part of a logjam tie for 12th place with even-par, 72s.
Rounding out the UConn effort, senior Jared Nelson (Rutland, Vt.) was in a tie for 33rd place in the 50-player field with a 3-over, 75 and freshman Trevor Lopez (Winchester, Mass.) was in a tie for 40th place after a 5-over, 77.
Round Two is set for Tuesday and the final round will be Wednesday. The team champion as well as the individual medalist, if he is not part of the winning team, will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championship.
