Jana Sanden and Meghan O'Neil receive BIG EAST weekly honors

Storrs, CT – Sophomore Jana Sanden was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for her performance against Villanova this past weekend. Meghan O'Neil made honor roll also for her performances this past weekend.
Sanden came up big for the Huskies in the final series of the regular season, driving in four runs, with a .400 batting average and a .500 slugging percentage. She delivered the game winning hit on Friday to secure the BIG EAST regular season title for the Huskies for the first time in 25 years. Sanden, the reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, will look to continue her hot streak at the dish this week at the BIG EAST Tournament in Rosemont, IL.
O'Neil was dominant in the circle for the Huskies in their win over Villanova on Saturday. She went the distance pitching a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts. Her prior outing against St. Joe's she had a game high 15 strikeouts. In her past three outings O'Neil has compiled 28 strikeouts in 16 innings of work.
The Huskies will kick off the BIG EAST Tournament on Thursday afternoon against DePaul. Game time is set for 12:00pm EST.
