Huskies Drop First Match Of Penn State Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team fell to Penn State Friday night in three sets, in their opening match of the Penn State Invitational.
Penn State would come start the game firing on all cylinders as they would jump out to an early 9-3 lead. The Huskies would look to fight their way back into the game behind strong first sets from seniors Kennadie Jake-Turner and Jasmine Davis, however Penn State would not look back as they would take the first set 25-13.
The second set would begin and both teams would pick up the intensity as they would trade points back and forth. Following a 10-10 tie, Penn State would score eight unanswered points to take the 18-10 lead. Senior Caylee Parker and Allie Garland would continue to fight and extend the game however Penn State would take the second set 25-15.
Heading into the third and final set, the Huskies would lay it all on the floor. UConn would refuse to let Penn State take more than a two-point lead, as both teams would once again trade blows in a thrilling third set. Penn State would eventually take home the victory as they would win the third set 28-26 to sweep the Huskies.
UConn senior Allie Garland would finish the game with seven kills and two blocks, while Jasmine Davis and Kennadie Jake-Turner would both finish the night with six kills apiece, while Madi Whitmire would finish with 24 total assists.

UConn will wrap up their Penn State invitational trip with a matchup against Duquesne at 3:30pm. Duquesne heads into the matchup with the Huskies having lost their two matches today against Loyola Maryland and West Virginia.
