Three UConn Alums to Compete in 2022 FIBA World Cup

SYDNEY – Three former standouts for the UConn women's basketball team will suit up for their national teams in the 2022 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.
Breanna Stewart (USA), Kia Nurse (Canada) and Gabby Williams (France) are all due to compete starting Wednesday in the group phase. The group phase will take place Wednesday through next Tuesday, Sept. 27. The elimination rounds will take place Thursday, Sept. 29-Saturday, Oct. 1.
The winner of the 2022 FIBA World Cup will earn a ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
All three UConn alumnae competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics last summer. Stewart and Team USA won gold while Williams and France won bronze. This will be Nurse's first competition since tearing her ACL last October.
The United States have won the last three World Cups and four of the last five.
World ranked No. 1 USA is in Group A with Belgium, China, Korea, Puerto Rico and Bosnia and Herzegovina. No. 4 Canada and No. 6 France are in Group B with host Australia, Japan, Serbia and Mali.
