SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – UConn juniors Caroline Ducharme and Azzi Fudd were selected to the 20-player watch list for the 2024 Cheryl Miller Award, as announced by the National Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Wednesday.
Named after the three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer, the annual award, in its seventh year, recognizes the top small forwards in women's NCAA Division I college basketball. A national committee of top college basketball personnel determined the watch list of 20 candidates.
Ducharme has been a key scorer for the Huskies in her first two seasons. She broke out as a freshman, starting in 11 games and averaging 9.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Ducharme was named All-BIG EAST Second Team as a freshman. The Milton, Mass., native missed time due to injury in 2022-23 and averaged 7.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game.
One of the most highly rated shooters in college basketball, Fudd averaged 15.0 points in 2022-23. She broke out for 32 points each vs. top-10 opponents Texas and NC State. Fudd also missed time due to injury last season. As a freshman, Fudd shot 43.0 percent from three-point range to lead the team.
UConn alumna Gabby Williams won the inaugural Cheryl Miller Award in 2018.
The Naismith Starting Five watch lists are being announced this week. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Award (Point Guard), Cheryl Miller Award (Small Forward), Katrina McClain Award (Power Forward) and the Lisa Leslie Award (Center).
UConn senior Nika Mühl was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list while redshirt junior Paige Bueckers is on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list.
