No. 6 Huskies to Open NCAA Tournament Play vs. Vermont

STORRS, Conn. – The sixth-ranked and second-seeded UConn women's basketball team (29-5) hosts Vermont (25-6) in the NCAA Tournament First Round Saturday at 3 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will air on ABC and the UConn Sports Network (97-9 ESPN).
UConn enters the NCAA Tournament as a No. 2 seed for the sixth time in program history. The Huskies are 21-4 all-time as a No. 2 seed. This is UConn's 33rd overall and straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. UConn is 130-22 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, which is the winningest record in the sport.
The Huskies are 29-2 in the NCAA First Round and have won 28 straight First Round games.
Earlier this week, junior Aaliyah Edwards was named an AP and USBWA Third Team All-American. Graduate student Lou Lopez Sénéchal and junior Nika Mühl earned AP Honorable Mention honors.
Edwards had 19 points and 15 rebounds as the Huskies beat Villanova, 67-56, the 2023 BIG EAST Tournament Championship last week. Edwards was named the tournament's MOP while graduate students Dorka Juhász and Lopez Sénéchal were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Huskies won their 10th straight conference tournament title.
UConn legend Maya Moore and her husband Jonathan Irons will be back on campus next Monday to host a book signing of their book Love & Justice in the UConn Student Union from 4:30-5:45 p.m.
UConn is 11-0 all-time vs. Vermont. The teams have met once previously in the NCAA Tournament. UConn beat Vermont, 104-65, in the First Round in 2009. UConn assistant coach Morgan Valley is a native of Colchester, Vt.
Vermont won the America East Tournament Championship with a 38-36 win over Albany. This season, Emma Utterback leads the Catamounts with 14.0 points per game. Vermont has won 17 straight games coming into Saturday. Head coach Alisa Kresge is in her fourth season at Vermont.
