Softball heads to Lynchburg for Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The UConn softball team (7-5) heads to Virginia for the Liberty Invitational this weekend.
The Huskies will kick off the weekend on Saturday afternoon with a pair of matchups starting at 12:30pm against the host school, Liberty (5-9). The Flames have won four straight games heading into the weekend. UConn will play Radford (6-8) in the second game at 5:00pm on Saturday.
The Huskies will close out the weekend on Sunday with a doubleheader against Iona (2-3) starting at 10:00am, with the second game to follow directly after the conclusion of the first game.
UConn has a balanced attack with contributions up and down the lineup as six Huskies are hitting over .300 to start the season. Jana Sanden leads the Huskies with a .378 batting average and eight runs batted in. She received BIG EAST Player of the Week for her performance at UNCG last weekend.
The pitching staff shined for the Huskies last week holding a staff era of 1.93 in 28 innings pitched totaling 31 strikeouts. Payton Kinney leads the staff with a 3.46 era and 25 strikeouts in seven appearances. She received BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for her performances in the circle last week at UNCG.
