Colin Winkler Awarded Men's Big East Field Athlete of the Week

STORRS, Conn. - The Big East Conference awarded javelin thrower Colin Winkler to the Men's Big East Field Athlete of the Week Award on Wednesday.
In the javelin at the UConn Northeast Challenge, Winkler had a personal best result of 69.78 meters placing first in the event. That distance also ranks him first in the conference and fifth all-time in UConn program history. Winkler also put up a 26th-best mark in the country.Â
Other notable performances from last weekend were Chris Lepore and Terrel Williams. Lepore ran an 8:50.05 time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, which is second-best in the conference, second-best all-time at UConn, and 36th nationally ranked. Williams ran a13.63 time in the 110-meter hurdles which is second in the conference, second all-time, and 20th in the nation.
All three athletes will compete next with the Virginia Challenge on Thursday through Saturday and the Navy Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
