David Smith Named Second Team All-American

LUBBOCK, Texas - UConn 2B/OF David Smith has been named a Second Team College Baseball Foundation All-American, as announced by the Foundation on Wednesday.
The UConn team captain started in 57 games at second base and in the outfield for the Huskies. The Collegeville, Pa. native led the BIG EAST Conference and was tied for third in the country with 39 stolen bases.Â
Smith became just the second player in program history to score 70 runs in a season (George Springer) after crossing the plate 70 times in 2023.Â
The UConn lead off hitter finished the year, hitting .304 with 72 hits including 19 doubles, two triples, five home runs and added 36 runs batted in. He finished the year leading the team with 45 walks and also led the team with a 37-game reach base streak.
The Second Team All-BIG EAST selection is currently sixth in program history with 62 career stolen bases.Â
Smith is the 15th All-American under head coach Jim Penders and is the seven-straight season that the Huskies have had at least one All-American.Â
