El Alfy to Participate with Egypt in 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup

STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's basketball freshman forward Jana El Alfy will compete at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup beginning with the group phase this weekend in Spain.
Egypt is in Group D with Canada, China and the Czech Republic. The Egyptians begin group play vs. Czech Republic on Saturday at 8:15 a.m. ET.
Games will air on Courtside1891 and at YouTube.com/FIBA.
Group play will take place July 15-19. Quarterfinals begin July 21, with semifinals on July 22 and finals on July 23.
El Alfy is the first player in program history from Egypt. She has represented Egypt in FIBA competition three times, including the 2021 FIBA U16 African Championship, the 2022 FIBA U17 World Cup and the 2022 FIBA U18 African Women's Championship. At the 2022 U18 African Championship, El Alfy led the tournament with 24.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, leading Egypt to silver.
