Bettencourt to Represent Portugal at FIBA U20 European Championship

STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's basketball sophomore Inês Bettencourt will compete with Portugal at the 2023 FIBA U20 Women's European Championship, beginning this weekend in Klaipeda and Vilnius, Lithuania.
Portugal is in a group with Israel, Serbia and Czech Republic. Portugal begins group phase play vs. Czech Republic on Saturday at 6 a.m. ET.
The knockout rounds begin next Wednesday, Aug. 2.
Bettencourt represented Portugal at the 2022 FIBA U18 Women's European Championship, Division B. She led Portugal and ranked fourth in the tournament with 14.4 points per game and added 4.6 steals, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Bettencourt was named to the tournament's All-Star Five.
In her freshman season at UConn, Bettencourt appeared in 25 games and made her first career start at Maryland. She set a personal best with seven points at Xavier.
