UConn Football Kicks-Off 2023 Training Camp

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn football program got preparations underway for the 2023 season with the first practice of fall training camp on Monday morning on campus. The Huskies are under the direction of second-year head coach Jim Mora as they begin their march to the 2023 season opener on Thursday, August 31 against NC State at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
The team kicked-off their preseason on Sunday by taking the official 2023 team picture and rolled into Monday morning's first practice of the preseason.
"Great to be back and jump right into it," commented Coach Mora who met with the media after practice. "On the first day, not a ton of mistakes but certainly a ton of work to do. Just want to commend our players for the way they handled themselves this offseason, their work and their commitment. It showed up today. Off to a decent start, a ton of work to do but excited to see where we are going."
The Huskies are coming off a 6-7 season where Mora led the Huskies to their first bowl game appearance since the 2015 season. UConn impressed at home last season under Mora, finishing 5-1 at The Rent. The 2023 season will see the Huskies play at home in East Hartford in five of the first seven games through October 21 starting with the home opener against the ACC's Wolfpack. The Huskies will also welcome FIU, Duke, Utah State and USF to their home turf during that stretch before wrapping the home schedule in late November against in-state foe Sacred Heart.
"In the old days, the first day of practice was different because you would go a while without seeing your players. We see them all the time now, they are always working. So it doesn't feel like the first day as it does the next step. That's exciting. We're not restarting, we are just taking the next step as a program and a team. I appreciate the work these players did this offseason. This team is so anxious to keep getting better, and as a coach, that inspires me."
