BOLOGNA, Italy – The UConn women's basketball team traveled to Italy, landing in Bologna for three days on the third stop of the program's 2023 Foreign Tour.
UConn arrived in the city on Saturday afternoon. After a short tour of the city center, the team participated in a pasta making class. The Huskies learned to make two Bologna specialties, garganelli and tortelloni.
Sunday was a beach day as the team ventured to Cervia, Italy, and spend a day on the Adriatic Riviera. At Fantini Beach Club, the Huskies relaxed in the sun and water before playing a game of beach volleyball.
While the players were at the beach, some of the coaches and staff instead went to San Marino, the fifth smallest country in the world at just 61 square kilometers. Located in the Apennine Mountains, the top of the city of San Marino offered breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding areas of San Marino and Italy.
Monday began with a trip to the Museo Ferrari in Maranello. After learning about the history of Ferrari and seeing racing and road cars from the company's history, the Huskies were able to participate in a Ferrari track simulator and pit crew challenge. The winning pit crew consisted of junior Amari DeBerry and coaches Jamelle Elliott and Ben Kantor, who changed a tire in 4.8 seconds.
Six Huskies finished in double digits as UConn played the Italian All-Stars Monday evening. The teams mutually agreed to end the game after three quarters, with UConn winning 78-21. Freshman Qadence Samuels paced UConn with 16 points while fellow freshman KK Arnold had 13 points and six steals.
Following the basketball game, UConn took in Bologna FC's Serie A opener vs. A.C. Milan at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.
Up next is the final stop on the Foreign Tour as the Huskies travel to Venice on Tuesday.
