Shade Earns BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for Fifth Time

STORRS, Conn. – UConn women's basketball guard Ashlynn Shade was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season the league announced Monday.
In two wins last week, Shade averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. After a quiet game vs. Seton Hall, Shade notched a game-high 21 points and personal-best seven rebounds vs. DePaul.
Shade has started UConn's last 12 games and is averaging 14.5 points per game in that span.
A UConn rookie has won BIG EAST Freshman of the Week in 10 of 11 weeks this season. Shade (Dec. 11, Dec. 22, Jan. 8, Jan. 15, Jan. 22) has earned the honor five times while KK Arnold (Nov. 20, Nov. 27, Dec. 18, Jan. 1) is a four-time honoree and Qadence Samuels (Nov. 13) was selected once.
Redshirt junior Paige Bueckers was selected to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after averaging 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 70.4% shooting in two wins.
The Huskies (16-3, 8-0 BIG EAST) travels to Marquette (15-3, 4-3) Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield.
