Huskies Rank Among National Leaders In Capital One Cup

STORRS – In the final 2023-24 Capital One Cup standings the UConn athletics department finished strong, including a rank of third overall in the Men's Cup Standings. Connecticut also finished 24th in the Women's Cup Standings. The Capital One Cup tracks NCAA Championship and final poll results throughout the academic season to award Athletic Excellence.
Connecticut is one of seven institutions to rank in the Top-25 of the Capital One Cup standings both on the men's and women's side, joining Texas, Virginia, Clemson, North Carolina, Florida and Cal. The No. 3 finish in the Men's Cup is UConn's highest in Capital One Cup history.
Highlighting the success for UConn in the 2023-24 season was the men's basketball team winning its second-straight national title, the sixth in program history. Tristen Newton was an All-American, Dan Hurley won Naismith National Coach of the Year and the Huskies topped every major poll. Also on the men's side, the baseball squad advanced to the Super Regionals and finished top-20 in the final national polls.
The women's basketball team returned to the Final Four this season, winning the Portland II Regional with Paige Bueckers earning All-America honors. Women's ice hockey had its best season in program history, winning both the Hockey East Regular Season and Tournament before advancing to its first-ever NCAA Tournament. Chris MacKenzie was named CCM/AHCA National Women's Coach of the Year. In addition, Chloe Thomas of the women's track team was named an All-American.
