STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (0-1-1) fell, 1-0, to Wisconsin (1-1) on Thursday evening at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
Both teams played pretty even during a 0-0 first half with the Badgers having a slight 3-2 shot edge.
Wisconsin broke the stalemate with a set piece goal off a corner kick that Alyssa Mahrt was able to volley into the back of the net.
The Badgers added to their lead in the 73rd minute with Mahrt scoring her second goal of the match off a nice give-and-go near the top of the 18.
UConn responded in the 83rd minute on Naia Ocio's first career goal. Senior Anna Carson sent a free kick from just inside midfield into the box. A header from Taylor Jenkins bounced inside the six was headed by Abbey Jones towards the goal line and the Spaniard was able to finish it off to make it 2-1.
The Huskies fought to find an equalizer in the final eight minutes but were unable to. Chioma Okafor led the offense with two shots on the day while Kaitlyn Mahoney two saves in net.
Next up, UConn heads on the road for the first time this year with a Sunday, Aug. 25 trip to the University of New Hampshire at 2 p.m.
