Huskies Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Awards

NEW YORK – UConn women's basketball sophomore forward Sarah Strong was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for the second straight week while forward Blanca Quiñonez was tabbed the conference's Freshman of the Week Monday.
In two wins last week, Strong averaged 20.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 3.0 blocks and 4.5 steals per game with a .630/.429/1.000 shooting split. In an 85-31 win over Loyola Chicago, Strong scored 11 points and added three rebounds, four assists, three blocks and four steals.
In a 100-68 win over Ohio State, Strong was impactful everywhere on the court. She matched her career high with 29 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, set a career high with seven assists, had three blocks and five steals. Strong made a career-high 12 field goals vs. the Buckeyes and committed zero turnovers in 33 minutes played.
Strong currently leads the Huskies in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks.
This is Strong's fifth career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor.
Quiñonez made her collegiate debut vs. the Ramblers, scoring five points and adding three assists and two steals in 13 minutes. Against Ohio State, she broke out for 18 points on 7-11 shooting and had four rebounds and two steals.
The top-ranked Huskies face No. 6 Michigan in a top-10 showdown in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase this Friday at 8 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air on FOX.
