NEW YORK – UConn women's basketball graduate student Azzi Fudd was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week and Blanca Quiñonez was selected the conference's Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The duo led the Huskies to a 79-51 win at No. 16 USC last Saturday as UConn moved to a 10-0 record on the season.
Fudd scored 17 points vs. the Trojans, shooting 6-11 from the field and 3-6 from three-point range. She also grabbed three rebounds and four assists.
As the primary defender on USC's top scorer Jazzy Davidson, Fudd helped keep her to a season-low 10 points on 3-13 shooting. The Trojans' 51 points were a season low as well.
This season, Fudd is averaging a .500/.531/1.000 shooting split.
Quiñonez notched 12 points off the bench on 5-9 shooting to go with four rebounds, two assists and a personal-best four steals.
Quiñonez has emerged as UConn's third scorer behind Fudd and sophomore Sarah Strong, averaging 10.1 points per game. She leads the Huskies with a 58.8 three-point shooting percentage.
This is Fudd's fourth career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor and Quiñonez's third Freshman of the Week honor.
This is the third time this season UConn has swept the conference's weekly honors.
No. 1 UConn (10-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) returns to PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford to host Marquette (7-3, 2-0) Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will air on peacock/NBC Sports Network. Tickets are available here.
