UConn Sweeps BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – For the sixth time this season, the UConn women's basketball team earned both BIG EAST Player and Freshman of the Week Honors. Sophomore Sarah Strong was named Player of the Week while Blanca Quiñonez was tabbed Freshman of the Week.
In three wins last week, Strong averaged 20.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game while shooting 58.1%. She had her sixth double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds vs. Notre Dame. Strong notched 25 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals at Georgetown. At Seton Hall, she had 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Quiñonez averaged 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game last week. She had eight points each vs. Notre Dame and Georgetown before notched 16 points, five rebounds and three steals at Seton Hall.
This is Strong's ninth career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor and Quiñonez's seventh Freshman of the Week honor.
The top-ranked Huskies (21-0, 11-0 BIG EAST) host Xavier (10-10, 3-8) in Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Before the game, the Huskies will. Induct alumna Aaliyah Edwards into the Huskies of Honor approximately 30 minutes before tipoff. Limited tickets remain here.
