Huskies Historic Season Ends in Loss to Texas A&M at College Station Regional

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UConn softball team concluded its historic 2026 season on Saturday evening at the College Station Regional after falling to No. 15 Texas A&M, 10-3 at Davis Diamond.
UConn finishes the 2026 season with a 32-28 overall record, capturing back-to-back BIG EAST Tournament championships for the first time in 30 years, and its third regular season conference title in the past five seasons. The Huskies also earned their first NCAA Tournament victory since 2001 and first under head coach Laura Valentino, while surpassing 30 wins for the fifth consecutive season, a first in the program's 51-year history.
Redshirt-junior Sydnee Koosh got the start in UConn's second elimination game of the day, making her 14th start of the season for the Huskies. Koosh went 4.2 innings giving up six runs on eight hits with a pair of walks.
The Aggies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning.
UConn responded back in the bottom of the 1st inning, plating a run on an Aggies throwing error, allowing Savannah Ring to score from third base, making it 3-1.
Koosh kept the potent Texas A&M lineup scoreless in the 2nd and 3rd innings to keep it a two-run game.
The Aggies added two runs in the 4th inning and one in the 5th inning, extending the deficit for UConn to 6-1.
Graduate Jessica Walter came on in relief for Koosh during the 5th inning, making her 42nd appearance of the season.Walter finished out the game in the circle, going 2.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts.
The Huskies continued to show fight, chipping away at the Texas A&M lead in the bottom of the 6th inning with a pair of runs to make it 6-3. Heidi Barber sparked the offense with her fourth home run of the season, a 218-foot solo shot to left field. Ring followed Barber with a double in the right center field gap, putting her in scoring position for Kaitlyn Kibling to bring her home with a two-out single to right field, bringing the Huskies to within three.
Texas A&M pulled away in the top of the 7th inning, scoring four runs, three coming off home runs to balloon its lead to 10-3.

- Jessica Walter made her 42nd appearance of the season, breaking the single season appearances record (41 by Meghan O'Neil in 2024).
- Savannah Ring recorded her 20th multi-hit game of the season. She scored two of UConn's three runs and had nine assists with one putout on defense.
- Heidi Barber hit her fourth home run of the year.
- UConn turned a double play, their third of the regional.
- UConn moves to 12-21 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
