HuskyLeads Tier II
HuskyLEADS Tier II is composed of student-athletes who expressed interest in continuing their leadership development during their time at UConn. The students previously completed HuskyLeads Tier I – a series of workshops facilitated by Student-Athlete Development Staff and the Student Activities Leadership Office. Tier II sessions are created based on students’ desires, needs, and current events. There is also a mentoring component to help foster personal and professional growth.
Topics include, but not limited: Communication Styles, using the DiSC Assessment, Having Difficult Conversations, Implicit Bias, MicroAggressions, Privilege Stress and Time Management, Career Goals and Explorations as well as Self-Care and Self-Confidence. Additionally, students are tasked with creating, planning, and executing a capstone semester long project.
What Students are saying:
"HuskyLeads has benefited me by allowing me to actually talk out loud about how to lead. This has allowed me to open my eyes to new ideas about leadership and how to handle different types of people."
"HuskyLeads has benefited me individually, especially in the area of awareness. I have become more aware of professional, community, and leadership contexts, all of which have helped me grow as an individual."
"Husky Leads has taught me that being a leader is more than what it seems. It requires consistent work, self-reflection, and growth."
"I learned that a leader isn’t just evolving as an individual or guiding others to be successful, it involves listening and learning to others. Reaching out to others and allow them to teach you."
"What we learned has helped me on and off the field. I feel much more prepared to network, build my resume, and take the next step."
