SASP Freshman Bridge Program
The Freshman Bridge Program at the University of Connecticut was established to facilitate a smooth transition for incoming student-athletes from high school to college during the summer before their first full-time semester. Since its inception in 2013, the program has provided comprehensive support to help students acclimate both academically and holistically to university life.
Participants in the program will complete six credits of in-person or hybrid coursework. Those enrolled in Session I will take ENGL 1007: Freshman English Writing, along with UNIV 1800 and 1820. Students in Session II will enroll in two general education courses that contribute to the University’s new common curriculum. In addition to coursework, all students will engage in structured study halls, complete the SATA (Skill-Based Learning Assessment), and attend various educational workshops designed to further support their academic goals and success.
Admission to the Freshman Bridge Program is competitive and requires the following criteria:
- Acceptance into the University of Connecticut
- Evidence of meeting the University's English Proficiency standards
- Enrollment on a UConn Huskies Athletic Team
- Submission of the Freshman Bridge Program application form
Once accepted, students will receive an official letter of acceptance and work with a member of the Student-Athlete Success team to finalize their enrollment process.
This program is designed to ensure a strong foundation for student-athletes as they begin their academic careers at UConn, equipping them with the skills and resources needed for success both in the classroom and beyond.
