2024-25 (as a fifth-year at UConn): Made the transition from sixth man to starting point guard, appearing in all 35 contests and starting 28 of the final 30…finished the season averaging 7.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists in 27.9 minutes per game…finished third in the BIG EAST and 28th nationally in assists per game…shot 42.1 percent from the floor, 28.8 percent from 3-point range and 84.0 percent from the free throw line…200 total assists were the 16th most in the country and marked the seventh 200-assist season in UConn history…added a team-high 1.6 steals per game, seventh in the BIG EAST…posted 14 double-figure scoring games and three games with double-digit assists…recorded the first double-double of his career with 12 points and 11 assists vs. Xavier on Dec. 18…scored a career-high 19 points against Providence on Jan. 5, going 10-of-11 from the line.
2023-24 (as a senior at UConn): Was the 2024 BIG EAST Sixth Man Award winne...played in all 40 contests, coming off the bench in all but one...averaged 6.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in 19.3 minutes per contest...scored in double-figures seven times, including twice in the NCAA Tournament notched a UConn-high 14 points with five rebounds and five assists vs. DePaul (Jan. 2)...posted 14 points with six assists and five rebounds against Marquette (Feb. 17...had 10 points in the BIG EAST Semifinals against St. John’s (March 15)...scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting against Illinois in the Elite Eight (March 30)
2022-23 (as a junior at UConn): Appeared in 36 games in 2022-23, with three starts, including the BIG EAST Tournament opener… Averaged 2.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists per game… His 28 steals ranked third on the team… Provided excellent on-ball defense throughout the season, and especially during the postseason… Had 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio, among top three on the team… Returns as likely spot starter or first guard off the bench in 2023-24.
Before UConn: Transferred to UConn as a junior following two seasons at Texas A&M. Has one season of eligibility remaining, plus the option of another season, granted by the NCAA for student-athletes affected by the pandemic… Appeared in 58 games at A&M, starting 9, scoring 351 career points, grabbing 108 rebounds, with 86 assists, 47 steals, shooting .363 overall, .318 from three-point range, and .694 from the foul line… Tough defender with a knack of making clutch shots… Part of 35 victories at Texas A&M, including an appearance in the NIT Championship game.
As a Sophomore in 2021-22 (at Texas A&M): Appeared in all 40 games for Texas A&M, starting three, averaging 6.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, shooting .370 overall, .324 from three-point range and .718 from the foul line…. Helped the Aggies to a 27-13 record and to the championship game of the NIT at Madison Square Garden… Had 11 double-figure scoring games, including career-high 17 vs. Notre Dame (11/24/21)… Had career-high 4 three-pointers vs. Dallas Christian (12/27/21)… Hit three-pointers at the buzzer that won games against Abilene Christian and Florida.
As a Freshman in 2020-21 (at Texas A&M): Played in all 18 games during the Covid-abbreviated schedule, starting six. Averaged 5.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals and shot .350 overall, .304 from beyond the arc and .633 from the foul line… Finished second on the team with 19 steals… Had three double-figure scoring games, including 14 against New Orleans in his first college game, in which he also had a career-high 6 steals… Season highs of 14 points against New Orleans and Wofford.
Before College: Consensus Top 75 recruit… Ranked as a four-star recruit and No. 1 player in Connecticut by 247Sports and ESPN… Played three years at Putnam (Conn.) Science Academy, leading team to National Prep Championship in both 2018-19 and 1019-20… Finished as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,469 points… Began high school at Holy Cross in Queens, N.Y., for two years… Played AAU ball with the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL Circuit, averaging 13.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists.

Cherif is a forward at Division II Southern Connecticut State University.
