As a Junior in 2018-19: Kearsey continues to compile one of the best careers in UConn swimming history. He led the Huskies with 14 individual wins and scoring 171.5 points. Set school records in 50 Free (19.69), 100 Free (43.92)Â during junior season. American Conference Champion in the 50 Free and secured All-Conference marks in the 100 Back and 100 Free.Â
As a Sophomore in 2017-18: Repeated as two-time American Athletic Conference champion in the 100 and 200 Back...Set the pool record in 100 Back prelims with time of 47.91...Won 100 Back with NCAA B Qualifying time of 48.01...Set school record in the 100 Back (47.24) at the House of Champions...Holds the school record in 200 Back with a time of 1:43.89 that was set at American Championships...Led UConn with 16 individual wins, 166.25 points accumulated through the season which averaged to a team-high 22.95 points per meet...Set personal bests in 50 Free (20.93) at Dartmouth meet and 100 Fly (49.49) at the Husky Invitational.
As A Freshman in 2016-17: Two-time American Athletic Conference champion with wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke..also finished third in the 200-yard IM at the AAC meet...also earned a second and two thirds in relays at the American...broke three school records during his freshman year - 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle...also part of two relay records...set the UConn pool record in the 200-yard backstroke..named the AAC Swimmer of the Week on Feb. 4 by CollegeSwimming.com after winning two events at the Husky Open.
Before UConn: Attended Roundwood Park School in Harpenden, England… 2016 County champion in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke, 50-meter and 100-meter butterfly and 100-eterm IM… 2016 Regional champion in the 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke and the 100-meter freestyle… earned gold in the 100-meter backstroke from the National Arena Swimming League in 2016… a British national finalist for eight consecutive years… 2016 British Olympic Trials Qualifier for the 100-meter backstroke.
Personal: William Thomas Kearsey...son of Sarah and Steve Kearsey…has one sister, Lucy....mathematics major.
